Principals Weekly Message

Our June newsletter is now posted on the high school website.

Yearbooks have arrived and are available for purchase this week during lunches and in the Main Office.  If students are interested in purchasing one the cost is $72.00 and they can be purchased by cash or check.  If you are using a check, please make it out to NRSD, add Yearbook in the notation and send it in with your child.

As a reminder, I am planning to provide the Endowment Fund with the names and addresses of our current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors for them to use in the student directory next fall. If you do not want your child's information to appear in next year's directory, please e-mail me directly at if you have not already done so. Please respond by this Friday, June 16th if you do not want your information included.

We have two service projects currently going on. The Green Team is collecting gently used AP, SAT, and SAT II review books to be donated to resource poor schools in Worcester. Books can be brought to donation bins in the main office or in room 256 before the end of the year.

In addition, one of our students, Isaiah French, is collecting gently used items to donate to the homeless as part of Project Warm Up. If you have any backpacks, string bags, sports bags, or sweatshirts that you would be willing to donate, they can be dropped off in the donation bin outside the front office prior to the end of the year.

Speaking of the end of the year, a reminder that final exams begin this Thursday, June 15th. We have late starts this Thursday and Friday, June 15th and 16th, with school starting at 9:40 each morning. Next Monday, June 19th is also a late start with school beginning at 9:40.

Next Tuesday, June 20th will be our last day of school. The day begins at 7:40 and ends at 10:40—buses will be picking up at their normal times in the morning and leaving the high school shortly after 10:40. Students will have their A-period final from 7:40 until 9:10, and students can then take make-up finals and clean out their lockers from 9:10 until 10:40. If you wish to have your child released early that day, please make sure your child has a signed note and it would be ideal for your child to bring that note to the main office first thing in the morning. Parents can also check students out early beginning at 9:10 if they wish. Any items left in lockers will be added to our lost and found pile or thrown away. Thank you, and have a wonderful week!

First, a reminder that our Seniors have graduation rehearsal this Thursday, June 8th beginning at 9:00 AM in the upper gym. Parking will be a bit tight on campus, so I would encourage as many Seniors as possible to carpool.

And of course graduation is this Sunday, June 11th at 12:30 PM at the DCU Center in Worcester. Seniors need to be there by 11:30, and doors for seating will open at 11:45.

This Friday, June 9th we have In Control Crash Prevention, a driver education program, happening in the student parking lot during school. Students need to have signed up beforehand, and will need to have a signed waiver to participate. As a reminder, students will not be driving during this program, students will be riding in vehicles operated by a professional driver.

This Saturday, June 10th from 10:00am-1:00pm, the Nashoba Regional High School robotics team, The RoboChiefs will be holding a car wash fundraiser.  Please come by the high school to help support the team!  If the weather is dry, the team will also have the robots out for demonstrations and for the public to drive. We hope to see you there!

Our Underclassmen Awards ceremony is next Tuesday, June 13th at 6:30 PM in the high school auditorium. Parents should have already received invitation letters in the mail if your child will be receiving an award at the ceremony.

And finally, a reminder about final exams. Final exams begin on Thursday, June 15th. We have late starts for finals on June 15th, 16th, and 19th, with school beginning at 9:40 each of those mornings. On Tuesday, June 20th we start at our normal time of 7:40 but students are dismissed early at 10:40 AM. You can see our schedule for final exams on the rotation calendar on the high school website.

This Thursday, June 1st from 6:00 to 8:00 PM the Perkins Center in Lancaster will be showing the movie Screenagers, along with a question-and-answer session about child screen usage. For more information please see the attached flyer.

This Friday, June 2nd, assuming weather permits, we will be holding a Mini-Relay for Life at the high school starting at 1:15 in the afternoon. All students will have an opportunity to participate as we work to raise awareness and money for cancer research.

We have Science MCAS testing happening with most of our Sophomores and some of our Freshmen next Monday and Tuesday, June 5th and 6th.

Also next Monday, June 5th we will be recognizing Seniors who are receiving a scholarship through our Dollars for Scholars committee, and we will be recognizing Seniors who have demonstrated excellent academic achievement in various subject areas. If your child is being recognized on Monday, you will already have received a letter indicating that. The Scholarship Awards will begin at 7:00 PM in the high school auditorium, and the Academic Awards will begin around 7:45/8:00 PM, shortly after the Scholarship Awards conclude. Some students will be recognized at just one of the two ceremonies, and some will be recognized at both; you will have received separate letters for each ceremony. Students being recognized should dress nicely and sit at the front of the auditorium.

While I am speaking to Senior parents, a reminder that a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will happen next Thursday, June 8th at the graduation rehearsal. At the end of the rehearsal, all Seniors will be given their cumulative school records. These records include our only copy of the health and immunization records as well as all the accumulated educational materials. Please keep these records in a safe place, as you will need copies in the future for college and employment. And please remember to keep the original record and make copies as needed.

I have two PowerSchool updates. First, at this point all students’ grades should be current in PowerSchool through the mid-point of the fourth quarter. And second, you may notice that a couple new fields have appeared in PowerSchool. The end-of-semester, final exam, and end-of-year grades fields are now visible in PowerSchool. What you see there does not represent final grades, merely a computation of grades to this point. We will not have those final grades until after final exams have taken place.

One of our Nashoba traditions is the Giving Tree, which sits outside our front office and recognizes people who have made an extraordinary contribution to Nashoba. If you have nominations for individuals or organizations to be added to the giving tree please submit them via this Google Form Link.
